At A-level, students will expand both the breadth and depth of their understanding of Chemistry as well as having opportunities to explore ideas right at the cutting edge of the subject. They will vastly expand their skill base as they tackle more complex and challenging investigations and develop a rigorous approach to problem solving. They will also have opportunities to participate in competitions such as the ‘Chemistry Challenge’ and the ‘Cambridge Chemistry Olympiad’. To support the students’ ambitions and wider interests we have a programme of visiting speakers including ex-students and leading professionals as well as visits to University departments.

"I've really enjoyed my time at Coombe and hope to study medicine at University. I'm currently studying Chemistry, Maths and Biology at A level. I've found Chemistry particularly interesting as you get to explore new ideas and relate them to the world around you. Also I've had he opportunity to be involved in Science Club, where we perform exciting experiments for the lower school students."

'Chemistry is the study of all chemical substances and how they interact with each other. If you have a curiosity about what the world around you is made of, the clothes you wear, the gadgets you use, the food you eat, the natural and built environment around you, then chemistry could be for you.
Chemistry will enable you to develop problem solving, time management, data handling and team working skills whilst carrying out a wide variety of experiments. Key skills that will prepare you for a wide variety of careers in the future including medicine, law, engineering and finance.'
