'The media play a central role in contemporary culture, society and politics. They shape our perceptions of the world through the representations, ideas and points of view they present and they provide us with platforms for cultural expression. To study media means to participate in this discourse but also to learn how to deconstruct, critique and create it too. The globalised nature of the contemporary media, along with ongoing technological developments and more opportunities to interact with it suggests that the media's centrality in contemporary life can only increase, making it a relevant subject to study at A Level with great prospects for the future.'
