A-level Biology builds on the concepts and skills developed in GCSE Science. At Coombe we follow the OCR A course. This course allows students’ to learn key biological topics through both theoretical and practical teaching.

To enable our students’ to see biology in action, we arrange a number of trips, including the annual beach trip to East Wittering. This trip allows the students’ to carry out sampling techniques to identify areas of succession.

Biology is a very demanding, but enjoyable subject. By completing the course it will prepare students’ for a variety of further education courses and future careers.

Year 13 student

"I'm currently studying Biology, Chemistry and Psychology, with a plan to study midwifery at King's College London. I'm aiming to eventually become a midwife practitioner. I like the sense of independence we get at Coombe Sixth Form, and the teachers are very supportive - we get all the help we need, as the teachers make time for us both inside and outside of lessons."

Teacher in charge of Biology; Ms S Anastasi
