Curriculum Overview

Choose from two different academic pathways to suit your abilities and aspirations.

Coombe Sixth Form offers both A level and Level 3 vocational qualifications across our two sites, Clarance Avenue Campus (Coombe Girls' School site) and College Gardens Campus (Coombe Boys' School site).

The majority of our Coombe Sixth Form students join us from Coombe Boys' and Coombe Girls' Schools.  We also welcome external students to the Coombe community for their Sixth Form years.

Typically 85%+ students progress into higher education at a range of institutions and tariffs, including Russell Group universities and local specialist providers.

Level 3 Vocational Courses:

Students studying vocational courses such as AAQ, BTEC & CAPA, are based at the College Gardens Campus.  The majority of our vocational students move on to university, whilst others apply for higher level apprenticeships.

Students can carry out resits in GCSE English or Maths if needed. Students are involved in volunteering within school and an enrichment programme on Wednesday afternoons.

The Extended Project Qualification is offered as an additional course to all students, in students’ free time. Supervisors of the EPQ adopt a supportive but hands off approach in order to best support students’ transition to undergraduate study. A small percentage of the cohort complete the qualification.

A LEVEL:

The majority of students studying A Levels are based at the Clarence Avenue Campus, with a few subjects being taught at College Gardens Campus.

Our curriculum model is that the vast majority of students study three A levels for two years. A very small number of students study four subjects.

The Extended Project Qualification is offered as an additional course to all students, in students’ free time. Supervisors of the EPQ adopt a supportive but hands off approach in order to best support students’ transition to undergraduate study. A small percentage of the cohort complete the qualification.

The aim is ‘success’ – how you get there is up to you.
