Creative Digital Media Production is an exciting, practical course for students who are passionate about media, film, photography, design and digital content creation. Through hands-on projects, you will develop industry-relevant skills in planning, producing and evaluating a range of media products, preparing you for higher education or a career in the creative industries.
This course explores different aspects of the media industry, teaches you how to create various media texts, and evaluate their impact on audiences.
You will develop a range of production skills for magazines, social media, television, advertising, radio, film, and music industries.
You will become confident with video and picture editing, desktop publishing, digital photography using industry standard software.
The qualification covers knowledge and skills in single and multi-camera techniques, lighting, and sound recording.
You will develop analytical skills by examining media texts through key concepts such as audience, representation and genre.
The majority of your grade is determined by internally assessed coursework units. You will complete practical tasks, portfolios, presentations, and written assignments.
You will also have some externally assessed units.
The course consists of 13 units in total, 9 are assignment based and 4 are external exams.
Students are graded Pass (P), Merit (M), Distinction (D), or Distinction* (D*).
Final overall grades range from PPP to D*D*D*.
Five 9-4 grades at GCSE with a minimum of grade 3 in English Language and Maths. Students who achieve grade 3 in in English or Maths will be required to resit these exams.
For this course a minimum of grade 4 in English Language is highly recommended.
Ideal for students with a sound ability in English and who enjoy practical assignments.
A number of trips are planned throughout the year to places such as the Sky Academy, BBC studios, BBFC, and the museum of advertising and branding.
Students have the option to plan and complete a work experience placement in the media industry.
This course provides a broad knowldege base for further studies. It works very well with degrees such as film and television production, film studies, marketing, public relations, advertising, communication studies, and multimedia design.
It also prepares students well for apprenticeships in areas such as content creation, digital marketing and media production.
This course prepares students for careers working on a film set, or in a design or music studio.
The course is aimed at students looking to progress to employment in the creative industries.
Previous work experience placements have successfully led students to summer work and future industry contacts.
