Dr Koursarou:🗣️"Before the half term, our year 10 and 12 super scientists were busy in various competitions. National Scientific Thinking Challenge - 21 Y10s across a range of classes took part in the 90 minute online challenge devised by six university chemistry departments. This tested their analytical skills looking at data and graphs to spot trends, suggest hypotheses and identify anomalous results. Well done to all who took part - great work! Three Y12 A-level students took part in the Royal Society of Chemistry Analyst competition at Kingston university. Students spent the day working in the undergraduate labs against local schools to analyse the caffeine in freeze dried coffee using titration, analyse lipstick using thin layer chromatography and oil content in hand creams. We've received the below information from @aforchildren for our #CoombeUnity on a new Crisis & Resilience Fund:⠀ ⠀ 🗣️ Support for households with sudden money problems:⠀ ⠀ If your household is on a low income and experiences sudden money problems, you could be eligible for support through the Department of Work and Pensions’ new Crisis and Resilience Fund. ⠀ ⠀ The fund can help people with emergency payments to cover essential costs, as well as support to stay out of crisis long term. STUDENT FINANCE DEADLINE - FRIDAY 15th MAY Just a quick reminder that for Year 13 students heading off to uni this September, the deadline to apply for student finance is this coming Friday. You need to apply by then to ensure you have funding in place for when your course starts. https://bit.ly/4365yim Don't worry if you're not 100% sure which uni you will be going to yet. Just enter the most likely and if it changes nearer the time, you will be able to amend it on the Student Finance portal. Same goes for bank accounts. If you will be setting up a student bank account over the summer and want your student loan paid into it, then you can amend your bank details on the portal at any time. If you miss Friday's deadline, you can still apply but the funding may not be in place for when your course commences. #StudentFinance
