The course is designed to give a profound understanding of Spanish, covering grammar and vocabulary, but also focusing on how people live and use the language day-to-day.
Students are assessed on their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills at the end of Year 13.
A Level Spanish offers exciting activities beyond the classroom, such as study days, cultural workshops, and possible trips to
Spain for real-life language practice. You can take part in language competitions, university taster days, and enrichment events. You may
also become a language mentor, supporting younger students while building leadership and communication skills.
Language students are highly sought after by employers who need staff to communicate effectively and deal with overseas contacts.
Language-focused careers include translation, interpreting, language teaching, bilingual customer support, publishing, media, international trade, diplomacy, NGOs, tourism and hospitality, and law.
Universities often offer language studies as part of a combined degree, for example, International Relations and Spanish, Business Management with Spanish. Studying a language degree in combination with another discipline is highly valued as it develops both advanced communication skills and specialist knowledge, making graduates more adaptable and competitive in international careers.
